2011 year in review
Friday, January 27th, 2012WOW! What a season. That first word best sums up what was a great racing season. First off after having a disappointing 2010 racing season with their 600 car ,the team looked to improve that program in 2011. It only took to the second week of the season to see the improvement. April 9th with over 45 cars in the pits, Brandon scored the win with many of the big names in the event. The team struggled at times with this cars setup and that win was the only one for that car in this year. The team made major strides over where they were last year with this car. By the end of the year the team hit their stride running very consistent over the last quarter of the season. By seasons end the 600 program tallied that 1 win along with 5 top 5′s and 15 top 10′s. Compare this to the 2010 season at 1 top 5 and 5 top 10′s it is very easy to see how far the team has come with this car. Now the part of the review that has us saying wow. Brandon started the season on a down note struggling with his 270. DBY Motorsports put a new engine package together 4 the team and the motor was real fast. The problem was it kept burning up. They finally figured out they had a thermostat issue and took the car to Selinsgrove Speedway to shake the motor down. Shake it down they did. Brandon won the race going away by passing the tracks all time leading feature winner. The motor test was complete and team had no other motor issues the rest of the year. The next couple of weeks saw the team sort out the chassis at GVAT and break into the win column there on 5/14. The summer saw the team also take the car to Kutztown Speedway on Wednesdays for a couple of shows. Brandon won his first career win at that track on 6/15 and then again on 7/13. The summer was hot but so was Brandon. From 6/15 to 8/20 Brandon won a total of 7 times with this car. The end of August saw Brandon head off to college and he would only be running a couple more times this year. Brandon came home to run on 9/20 at the Hamlin Speedways Mountain Nationals. Brandon set second fastest time, won his heat and the dash cash. Brandon started on the pole and never looked back. Brandon grabbed the big check and his first win at that track. Brandon ended the season by heading to LInda’s Speedway for the biggest race of the year for the micro’s. Brandon timed 17th out of 80 cars and then easily qualified into the main in his heat. The main saw Brandon get eliminated in a first lap crash. Definitely not the way they wanted to end the season, but like they say “Thats Racing”. The stats for the 270 in 2011 will show the team winning 10 races at 4 different tracks. 19 top 5′s and 26 top 10′s. The whole stats for both cars together were an incredible 24 top 5′s and 41 top 10′s. Wow! A big congratulations goes out to Brandon and the team for a awesome racing season. Brandon and the team would like to send out some big thank you’s. First off to his pap Ron Ahner and Ahner Furniture for funding and supporting his racing program. Thankyou PAP. Other key sponsor’s include Morris Trucking, Pensyl Enterprises, Eclipsce Mattress Co., and Sterling Performance. The team also had product sponsors to thank. First a big thanks goes out to Daryl and Lee from DBY Motorsports, thanks for believing in our team. Horse power and support second to none. Thanks to Tim Buckwalter from TSL, “Tims Shock Lab”. Shock and technical support second to none. Now a shout out to the crew. First Brandon would like to thank his dad, the best crew chief in the business. Thank you dad for everything. A big thanks to the during the week crew, Butch and Tom. This is when the races are won. Thanks Tom for always keeping our cars looking great. The weekend crew Todd and Chris. With running two cars you guys are always running your tails off keeping me in cars running up front. I would also like to thank my family who sits in all kinds of weather to cheer me on. This really makes racing even more fun when family and friends are there cheering me on. A thanks goes out to Jim and Judy Widdoss for letting me run your car a couple times this past year, I had lots of fun and sorry about the wing. In closing Brandon and the team would like to wish everyone Happy Holidays and have a happy and safe off season. See you at the track in 2012.
